PENETRATING INTO LOCAL MINORITIES CULTURE AND FAR-AWAY VILLAGE LIFE DZHARI – TROITSKOYE – MANOMA

DAY 1

Depart from Khabarovsk to the administrative center of Nanai region – Troitskoye village (189 km along highway to Komsokolsk-na-Amure, 2,5 hours on the way).

10:30

Arrive to Troitskoye. Visit to local ethnographic museum devoted to the Nanai culture.

 

Excursion around the village, visit to local church.

12:30

Transfer to the neighboring Nanai village Dzhari.

 

Meeting Nanai folklore ceremony.

 

Excursion in the local cultural center:

history of the village and local families.

13:30

Lunch of Nanai dishes (ukha, tala) in the open-air or Nanai style camps. Demonstration of Nanai dishes cooking.

 

Nanai folklore show (30-40 min) by local ensemble “Igla dyarini” (Singing ornaments).

 

Nanai folklore games and rituals, national musical instruments.

Nanai handcrafters activities: beading, birch bark products, thread embroidery, fish skin and scales clothes.

 

Meeting with far-known Nanai master of embroidery Valentina Beldy.

Accommodation at Nanai family.

Getting acquainted with family lifestyle.

 

Dinner at home.

DAY 2

Excursion around Dzhari village. 

Visit to local old residents’ house.

Transfer to Nanai village Nizhnaya Manoma (7 km from Dzhari, 20 min on the way)

Arrival to the local homestead “Manoma” on the bank of the river Manoma.

 

The homestead is designed in Russian ancient style and consist of several wooden buildings brightly decorated with wood engravings.

 

Introducing the homestead masters and accommodation at the house.

Lunch of homemade dishes.

Boat trip in the National Park “Anuyskiy”.

 

Anui river is one of the most beautiful rivers of the Far East stretching into 393 km long. The nature around Anui river strikes with its richness and beauty. In the river live big species of taimen, grayling, lenok. In 2007 the river became a part of the National Reserve (Park) Anuiskiy and now it is under state guidance. Nowadays the river basin is the unique environmental complex of 430 hectares with untouched taiga forest, the abundance of landscapes and rare species of “red-book” animals and plants. It is also the home for Amur tiger.

Ecological path – cognitive excursion with learning taiga plants and animal traces.

Visit to ethno village “Alima”: hunter’s house in deep taiga and hunter’s path with Nanai and Udege fur animals traps. 

 

In the village the tourists are offered to trace the path of far-famed Ussuri hunter Dersu Uzala. The hunter became famous for its long life under the open sky in deep taiga, which was described in the works of Far-Eastern lore scientist and writer Vladimir Arseniev. Famous Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa made a screen version of Dersu Azula life with eponymous film title “Derzu Uzala”.

Excursion to the taiga apiary with nearby hunter’s winter house. Master-class in honey collecting (in the apiarist costume). Lesson on the useful healing properties of taiga honey.

 

Wood samovar tea-party with collected taiga wild  plants and honey, homemade fresh bakery.

Back to homestead Manoma.

 

Cooking dinner together with the home-masters: ukha, fried fresh fish, “5-minutes” caviar, baked in tandyr fish.

Russian wooden banya with oak (birch) bunch and herbal tea.

 

Overnight at homestead Manoma.

DAY 3

 

 

 

10:00

Continue excursion in Anuiskiy Nature Reserve, motor boats rafting into the lower Anui river.

 

Optionally: visit to the fish-breeding plant “Anuiskiy”.

Excursion around the plant, technology and function of the plant, peculiarities of the biology of Pacific types salmon (кета/Siberian salmon, горбуша/ pink salmon, кижуч/silver salmon, нерка/red salmon, чавыча/king salmon).

 Plant capacity is 30 million of young fish heads annually.

 

Rods fishing from the river bank or boats for lenok, taimen, grayling.

 

Demonstration of fresh fish cutting, master-class in stroganina and tala cooking, degustation of fresh fish dishes.

Lunch at homestead Manoma.

15:30

Walking excursion to Love Peak with view point for Manoma river entering the Anui river.

 

Optionally: horse-cart riding around the village.

18:00

Dinner at Manoma homestead with Farewell Nanai folklore ceremony.

19:30

Depart back to Khabarovsk.
